Occasionally, as with many knifemakers, I will have little casualties with a blade-a small forge mark,a slight twist or the geometry not quite right. I would normally test this blade to destruction, the imformation I gain is invaluable for improving my tecniques especially with the hardening and tempering process. If a blade has an outstanding feature, a nice curvature or showy temperline I will sometimes finish this blade and sell it as a slight second, and list it on ebay at a substantial saving on my usual price. It will be fitted and finished to my usual standard and most of its faults would not be noticable to the untrained eye.
